Strings Attached

This is Hobbit movie AUverse. Dís joins the quest with the Company. Though... there is something wrong with this whole idea... and she knows it.
Read from the oldest one - it should form one continuing story.
...
AU k filmovému Hobitovi. Dís se přidává k ostatním trpaslíkům. I když je to celé nějaké zvláštní a ona to cítí.
Stoslůvky budou anglicky, omlouvám se neangličtinářům.

As It Should Be

Úvodní poznámka:

And I am done!

Drabble:

A small voice sounded.
Mahal, help me.
Mahal opened his eyes and was furious. His people, enslaved to a stranger?
In a wink of an eye, the offending author stood before him.
“How dare you force the world to do your bidding? Who are you?”
“I’m a fanfiction writer,” said the author. “And you should be thankful. Because of me, people read about dwarves! But I get it, you can’t understand. Have you ever written anything?”
Mahal decided he heard enough.
He clasped his hands…
The author disappeared...
Dís woke up from a nightmare, She was home. In Ered Luin.

Mutiny

Úvodní poznámka:

Bonus bez nároku.

Drabble:

No matter what Thorin said, Dís will go to Ravenhill and…
Wait a minute. Why should I go to Ravenhill? Why should I fight? I endanger everyone! They are trying to protect me, ignoring their own safety…
Dís will go to Ravenhill.
No, I will not. Why am I on this quest? How come you can command me?
Because I am an author. And I want you to go to Ravenhill.
I refuse. You have no power over me anymore.
So you want to run? To hide from your destiny?
I... Mahal help me, I shouldn’t be here!
We’ll see.

To Victory

Úvodní poznámka:

Drabble:

“We ride to Ravenhill! Bring the war goats! For everyone! Thirteen… no, make it twelve. Thirteen is an unlucky number. Dís, you stay here. I want you to be safe.”
Dís looked defiantly at her brother.
“But there is fourteen of us, so no nonsense about unlucky numbers. I am going with you. So let them bring fourteen goats!”
“Um,” said Dáin, “there might be a wee problem... we don’t have fourteen goats. Not even thirteen.”
“See?” said Thorin. “Mahal wants you to stay. And…”
“We only have four goats!”
Thorin sighed.
“Alright.”
He should have the upper hand anyway.

Open Your Eyes

Úvodní poznámka:

Bonus bez nároku.
Poprvé vyhazuji bonusové drabble než jsem napsala Ostrovy, ale prostě usadila se mi v hlavě představa a trvala na tom, že musí být naspána.
Blanca's gonna kill me...

Drabble:

Tango sounds.
Thorin dances onto the stage, holding his grandfather’s cloak and crown in his arms. Continues dancing tango, pretending he is holding a maiden.
Dwalin comes.

Dwalin: “They are dying there!”
Thorin: “The gold is above the dwarves!”
Dwalin: “You are not your grandfather! Wake up!”
Thorin: “Leave, or I will kill you.”
Dwalin leaves.
Dís dances onto the stage.

Thorin: “Didn’t you want to go to bed?”
Dís: “Bed, bed I couldn't go to bed
My head's too light to try to set it down
Sleep, sleep I couldn't sleep tonight
Not for all the jewels in the crown…”
Thorin: “But there are no…”
Dís: “I could have danced all night, I could have danced all night
And still have begged for more
I could have spread my wings and done a thousand things
I've never done before…”
Thorin: “I can see it now! The gold is poisoned! It’s beauty... is a lie! Sister, you saved me! You showed me the truth! We will fight!”
Dís (suddenly normal): “Lets fight for our people!”
Huge fight. Fourteen dwarves come running in.
Legolas (merrily): “Caradhraaaas, Caradhraaas. Mountain that touches the sky that’s Caradhraaas, Caradhraaas.”
Gandalf (shouts): “Wrong movie!”
Light out.

Peaceful Indeed

Úvodní poznámka:

Drabble:

It started slowly.
First… men and elves at the gate. Then Dáin came, ready to kick some... ready to kick some. But suddently…
The orcs.
Dís facepalmed.
And Dáin, all battle happy went for it. Alone, without support. Oh, he would show them for sure!
He couldn’t.
Because… all of those stupid elves and their stupid stunt. They apparently lost their bows somewhere, deciding to – for Mahal’s sake! – jump over the protective walls of the dwarves (that had wings completely open, but that’s cousin Dáin for you).
As Dís facepalmed again, the elves met the orcs.
The first deadly crop.

The Right Moment

Úvodní poznámka:

Bonus bez nároku.

Drabble:

Maybe…
Maybe they will not fight, after all. There is just fourteen of them, surely Thorin can’t think they would stand a chance.
Dís didn’t want to fight. But at the same time she longed for fight, to defend what is theirs… hers. Erebor.
She gulped when she saw the armies that came to their defeat.
This would be madness…
“Will you have peace... or will you have war?”
“Brother…” she whispered.
It seemed.. there will be a peace. At last.
But then the raven came, with the first ray of sun.
“I will have war.”
Dain is here.
Darn.

He Had It In Writing

Úvodní poznámka:

Drabble:

Whatever the little thief says, he broke the contract!
Dís was fuming.
Thorin was fuming much more, of course. He was angry and he had every right to be angry.
It was clearly stated…
The Arkenstone had much bigger value than one fifteenth of the treasure!
It was all about the Arkenstone.
And the thief stole it.
There was nothing about the date of payment (why, all the business was far from concluded)! Nor anything about choosing the manner of payment.
Oh, the burglar got lucky.
He broke the contract…
And still, he was let go.
To live in shame.

Through Thranduil’s Eyes

Úvodní poznámka:

Drabble:

I am, once again, looking upon the dwarven city.
The term “city” used loosely. Cave, more likely.
Rather spacious cave, I will give them that, but after all... just a cave.
Just imagine what must be going on in there (I have been there, in another life). The dwarves getting ready for battle. Trying on various armor, each heavier than the one before. Each more ornate than the one before.
I seem to recall an extensive armory in the city. Cave.
So the dwarves are eager to fight?
Fortunately, Aulë doesn’t let them come back from the Halls.
Lucky us.

Feasts Missed

Úvodní poznámka:

Drabble:

There was a slight problem in Erebor.
Scratch it, there were lot of problems in Erebor. But one of them (a big one) was... food.
As food didn’t keep through all the years. They brought some, but not much.
Which meant rations.
Dís hated rations.
Then the Bard character came with some crazy offer. How could he?
(How come Thorin didn’t keep his word? Didn’t pay his debts?)
Bard went away... and returned. And he was not alone.
“Lets kill it and eat it,” said Dís. Yes, she was really hungry.
“The elf or the moose?”
“Is there a difference?”

A Large White Gem

Úvodní poznámka:

Drabble:

Now, where was it?
Thorin needed it. They needed it. She needed it…
For her brother, of course. And Fíli… and Kíli. Her sons are so young, she can keep it for them. Until they are old enough.
No! What is she thinking! Arkenstone belongs to Thorin!

That’s stupid. Just because he is her older brother? She is a lady, she deserves better…
Wait a minute. Something strange is going on. What dark power is in play here?

Everybody searches for the Arkenstone.
They will bring it to them. To Thorin... and to her…
“Have you found anything yet, Bilbo?”

The Lonely Mountain

Úvodní poznámka:

Drabble:

It… sings. Sweet, so sweet.
The Mountain, their home.
Dís could feel it from the first time she saw it again, on Carrock. Stronger and stronger it pulled on her heart. And now... they were on their way.
To the mountain.
Home.
She was worried. Did the others survive? Did Thorin… Was he alright?
She almost run the last mile, not taking into account Kíli’s injury and Oin’s age.
Finally!
They... were home.
Home, sweet home…
But then… Thorin. She saw it, the look in his eyes.
He was not alright.
And the gold sung. Its voice sweet, so sweet.

Important Meeting

Úvodní poznámka:

Drabble:

Dís never believed she will see Smaug with her own eyes.
When he attacked Erebor she didn’t see him. Hearing – and smelling him – was enough.
And now he was here.
All the boasting was forgotten.
Mahal, he was huge! And he spit fire!
It seemed impossible. This nightmare… can’t be happening!
But it was.
Dís suddenly felt like she is… not dressed properly.
Wearing trousers... like every other dwarven maiden on the road?
She should wear dress now.
For the biggest moment of her life. Facing the dragon.
She is a princess, after all.
She should be seen as such.

Drabble:

She counted on having dinner – no, feast actually – in Erebor this night.
She was left behind.
She counted on help of people of Laketown.
She watched her son fight for his life.
She counted on word from Thorin. On some news. On the dragon being deep asleep (or possibly dead?).
Or on Bilbo getting the Arkenstone, just like that…
None of that happened.
Dís watched as the Mountain came alive with flames and roaring, a roaring of enraged dragon.
They should have stayed in Ered Luin.
She swore.
Now let that worm come here! She will show it what for!

Drabble:

And here she goes again, thought Dís.
As if it was not enough of this… elf. The look at her face as she took athelas from Bofur’s hands… was almost ecstatic.
“I can save him!”
Alright, so she did save Kíli.
But she certainly didn’t have to drug him.
She didn’t have to try so hard to impress him.
She would’ve done a better job of that if she made sure no orc would get close.
Thankfully, Kíli still could count on his mother.
Dís didn’t try to impress anyone. Still she managed to make sure Tauriel knows her place.

Wrong Kind of Tomorrow

Úvodní poznámka:

Drabble:

Dís was robbed. Of the Quest, of Erebor, of her home.
“Stay with Kíli,” said Thorin. “He needs you.”
Of course she would stay with Kíli! But Kíli was supposed to go on, not to be left behind!
Yesterday they celebrated. Bofur got so drunk he completely disappeared under the table… falling asleep, according to the sound of snoring.
Yesterday everything seemed promising.
Yesterday they told each other: “Tomorrow we will celebrate in the halls of Erebor!”
That was yesterday.
Tomorrow… she will sit here and watch how her son fights for life.
She didn’t want that kind of tomorrow.

Promise of Future

Úvodní poznámka:

Drabble:

After they were caught stealing from the armory, the people of Laketown got to the square. Mainly because of curiosity.
The dwarves were standing proud, Dís kept safe in the middle of them.
She hated it.
The mood of people was quite dark. Are they in danger?
“Promise them gold,” she whispered to Thorin.
He had them wrapped around the finger in no time. The mob got drunk... on a promise of gold. Noone could lay a hand on the dwarves now. The people didn’t listen.
Gold, gold, gold was all they could think of.
And they call dwarves greedy.

They were running through a city of men in broad daylight, thinking they won’t be noticed.
Stupid.
Then they entered a house... through the toilet.
Clumsy.
They thought a fisherman would have some… real weapons.
Naïve.
When they found out he didn’t, they got the brilliant idea of trying to steal some.
Foolish.
Yes, and noone took care of Kíli’s injury.
Idiots.
Of course everything just had to go down the drain. Because if any of them ever possessed brain, they really managed to displace it.
Dís just hoped they will be able to locate it before this is over.

No Evidence Needed

Úvodní poznámka:

Drabble:

Dís disliked Bard from the first time she saw him. Unfortunately they needed him. And fortunately he needed their money.
So now they were stuck on this little boat, listening to stories of greatness of Laketown… before the dragon came.
Bard was certain of one thing. Everybody was.
The reason why the dragon came.
It was because of the dwarves.
It was their fault. Their crime was greed.
(And that coming from the man who took nearly all their money.)
Guilty without a process.
And if that was not enough…
He stuck them into barrels and buried them in fish.

One Chance Only

Úvodní poznámka:

Drabble:

Escape from the dungeons was fun.
At first.
It was almost like an amusement park (except she didn’t know what an amusement park was). Until the gate was closed and the ride stopped.
Then the orcs came.
And Kíli… got hurt.
Then the gate opened and the ride continued. Going through the whitewater and orcs, working together to get to safety.
Safety…
Kíli was hurt.
Thorin was frowning.
Dís had a feeling they should return and try it all over again – and better this time. She would even pay the elves for another opportunity.
Shame life doesn’t work like that.

Drabble:

So the elves decided to stick them into prison.
How typical.
Dís frowned.
It was not smelly and cold prison, but one would expect as much of the elven folk. The cells were... well, not spacious and comfortable, but at least clean and reasonably well kept.
But... they were cells, obviously.
And Thranduil only wanted to see Thorin, and that for a short time.
How long is he going to keep them here?
But the worst thing in here is… that one.
The one... that walks in starlight.
She comes out of the darkness… to steal Kíli’s heart and soul.

Drabble:

When she thought it couldn’t possibly get worse, the spiders came. Before she knew, her kinsmen were disappearing in white cocoons. She avoided the capture, of course, and Bilbo helped her to free everybody – for a short while. Then more spiders came.
Dís swung her axes, everybody was fighting hard…
Then an arrow flew, and it was not one of Kíli's.
The elves…
They didn’t let them help Kíli! Instead of that, one of them had all the fun.
She was… way too pretty.
While the dwarves stank after days on the road, her clothes smelled fresh.
It meant trouble.

Mirkwood was dark and evil looking. Gandalf told them to stay on the road… before he decided to go somewhere else, do something more exciting than to guide the company through a dangerous, elven infested wood, Dís thought darkly.
Her other part wondered how come she got ideas like that – Gandalf was not responsible for them, he was helping them on his own accord and without a reward.
And he helped them some more.
“I got this,” she pulled the thingy out of her pocket. “So we won’t get lost.”
“Wha’s that?” Dwalin wondered.
“The wizard called it… a compass.”

“As he wouldn’t see what we are wearing,” whispered Kíli to Fíli.
“He might decide not to see what he sees, Kíli,” Gandalf was in his lecturing mode. He took another look at the dwarves.
“You know,” he hesitated, “you better not talk at all.”
Dís sighed.
Beorn was still chopping wood.
Just a couple of steps outside... to stretch her legs.
“Hi,” she said.

Dís was almost insane with worry. He didn’t move at all... and the eagle was carrying him so carelessly…
She will be in much better mood soon, after it will be sure Thorn is fine.
And they will see the Mountain.
Their home.
She wouldn’t be in such a good mood, though, if she knew…
The dragon was woken from his slumber. From a nightmare. Nightmare… of loosing his precious possesion.
Smaug angrily puffed.
Noone will take the Arkenstone away from him! He will not part with anything that is his!
He won’t be without it. Ever.

Drabble:

After the blast of light (turned out to be Gandalf’s doing) they ran. They ran way too fast and way too much, over fragile bridges, through way too many goblins.
They ran all the way out of the tunnels.
After just a short while to catch their breath – and let the hobbit to catch up to them – there was howling. They ran again.
Onto the trees and to a surprise.
Azog.
Dís gritted her teeth as she listened to his speech… and the implications.
So it was easy to follow Thorin... through the bonfires... to the great unknown.
To death.

Rivendell was nice, but their food was bland.
The trek to the mountains was long and tiring.
The mountain giants were absolutely the worst. Dís thought she might have lost Fíli… And atop of all that… the comfortable cave they've chosen for rest looked too good to be true.
It was.
Now they were dragged through tunnels full of gruesome skeletons…
It was so bad it was almost bizarre.
“We will eat you,” scowled one of the goblins at Dís.
She suppressed the urge to offer him ketchup.
Yes, she was way too tired.

All that – unnecessary – running made her feel even more angry. But Gandalf didn’t want to hear anything about fourteen dwarves being able to take down some twenty orcs on wargs, no.
So they had to run, and run some more. And then... run yet a bit more.
They were hunched below a huge rock now, keeping quiet. So the damned warg scout wouldn’t know…

While she was waiting by the fire, the others were in danger of being eaten. And she couldn’t do anything about that.
Then they spent way too long in a smelly cave where Thorin got a sword.
Then some crazy man on a crazy sled pulled by crazy rabbits appeared, asking for Gandalf.
Dís was fed up of being left behind, being ignored and being helpless.
So the warg that got that brilliant idea of attacking them came handy.
Dís smashed it over its head. With her axes. Repeatedly.
That felt good.
Oh, there are more?
That felt even better!
